Snake gourd Poriyal

  • 1 Snake gourd
  • 1/4 cup Chana dal cooked
  • 1/4 cup Onion finely chopped
  • 3 Green chillies chopped
  • 1 sprig Curry leaves
  • 1 clove Garlic crushed
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp Chana dal
  • 1 tbsp Urad dal
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp Coriander leaves chopped
  • Salt to taste

  1. Wash and chop the snake gourd into small pieces.
  2. Put this in a microwave safe bowl and add 2 tbsp of water and salt.
  3. Mix well, now close the lid partially and microwave for 8 mins, stirring in between.
  4. Now heat a pan, add oil, when hot add mustard seeds, when the seeds splutter add cumin seeds.
  5. Now add chana dal (uncooked) and urad dal.
  6. When the dals turn golden brown add onion, garlic, green chillies and curry leaves.
  7. Fry until onions turn transparent and then add turmeric powder and mix well.
  8. Now add the cooked snake gourd and keep frying until all the water is evaporated.
  9. Now add the cooked chana dal and fry well.
  10. Add coriander leaves and mix well.
  11. Transfer to a bowl and serve as a side dish.
