- 1 Ripe mango
- 3 tsp Sesame seeds
- 1 cup Coconut
- 5 Dry red chillies
- 1 tsp Oil
- 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 marble size Tamarind
- 1/2 tsp Jaggery (optional)
- 4 Curry leaves
- Salt to taste
Ingredients:
- Wash and peel the skin of mango. Chop in small pieces.
- Now bowl water in a sauce pan. Add these chopped mangoes and boil for 3 mins.
- Strain all the water and keep aside.
- Remove the extract from tamarind by soaking in warm water.
- Heat a pan, dry roast sesame seeds, red chillies and coconut separately.
- Allow to cool and then grind to a smooth paste with water.
- Now heat a pan add oil, when hot add mustard seeds, when it splutters add curry leaves.
- Now add the grounded paste, dilute with little water and add the cooked mangoes.
- Mix them well, add salt and tamarind extract, allow to cook for 5-6 mins.
- Now add the jaggery and remove from the flame.
- Serve hot with steamed rice along with Ghee and papad.
Note:
- This is a Udupi cuisine, karnataka.
- Most of all karnataka recipes contain jaggery.
- This dish can also be made with pineapples.
- This dish is great for sweet and sour lovers.
