Fenugreek Dal / Methi pappu

  • 1 cup Toor dal
  • 1 bunch Fenugreek leaves
  • 1 cup Onion chopped
  • 1 Tomato chopped
  • 1 clove garlic crushed
  • 6 Green chillies slit
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 sprig Curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • Salt to taste

  1. Separate the leaves from the stem, discard the lower part of leaves and yellow leaves.
  2. Wash them well and chop finely.
  3. Wash toor dal with water.
  4. In a pressure cooker add toor dal, fenugreek leaves, garlic, green chillies, 1/2 cup of onion, tomato, turmeric powder and pour water until all the ingredients are covered.
  5. Pressure cook for 3 whistles, leave untouched until pressure is released.
  6. Now heat a pan, add oil, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, remaining onion and fry well.
  7. Now remove the lid of the pressure cooker, Mash thoroughly with ladle.
  8. Transfer the fried onions to the dal.
  9. Adjust water to dilute it, add salt and mix well.
  10. Allow to boil for 3 mins.
  11. Transfer to a serving bowl.
  12. Serve hot with rice and ghee.
